What should a recipient do if they receive Form 1099-NEC?

 

1) Review the information:

Carefully review the information provided on Form 1099-NEC to ensure its accuracy
Note: If you believe there is incorrect information in Form 1099-NEC, reach out to the payer and discuss the issue with them. Request to correct the form if necessary.


2) Report income correctly:

Depending on your tax status, report the income from Form 1099-NEC appropriately on your tax return

  • Self-employed: report it on Schedule C (Form 1040)
  • Sole proprietor: report it on Schedule F (Form 1040)
  • Partnership: Form 1065 and Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) and the recipient/partner complete Schedule SE (Form 1040)
